On Thursday, Oct.18, at 7:30 p.m., Vermont Public Television (VPT) will present the third in its weekly series of live debates with candidates for statewide offices. In keeping with its tradition, VPT invites all candidates on the ballot to participate. VPT will broadcast the debate statewide, and webcast and archive it on vpt.org. It will also be rebroadcast Oct. 20 at 5:30 p.m. on the VPT World channel.
The candidates and their affiliations are James “Sam” Desrochers, independent; Mark Donka, Republican; Andre LaFramboise, VoteKISS; Jane Newton, Liberty Union; and Peter Welch, Democratic/Working Families.
Moderator Mark Johnson will include questions from the public among those he asks. VPT invites people to call (802) 655-8046 up to the day before the debate and follow the prompts to record a question. The question must be one that can be addressed to all the candidates for the office. VPT is also taking questions by email at connect@vpt.org.
VPT’s debates offer voters the opportunity to make informed decisions by seeing major party, minor party and independent candidates for an office in the same forum.
Candidates for governor debated on Oct. 4. Lieutenant governor candidates debated Oct. 11. The final live debate will be Thursday, Oct. 25, at 7:30 p.m., with candidates for U.S. Senate.
